MCRC was started with the vision of effecting social change through research & ideation. The Centre is a huge driver of science and technology applications for rural development. It works in the areas of non-conventional energy, eco-technology, food and nutritional supplements, plant tissue culture and organic agriculture.

Community Development

  • Constructed a dump yard at Khazipally village, close to TIDC Plant, Telangana.
  • Purchased an Ice lined refrigerator for the Primary Health Centre, Poonimangadu, Tiruvelangadu Block, Tiruvallur District, near Chennai for storing vaccines meant for reducing childhood & infant mortality and twelve other life threatening diseases.
  • Provided Basic Infrastructure support for School and Local Govt. Hospital, Ghanour.
  • Constructed Bus Shelters at Thaneerkulam Village.
  • Provided Infrastructure Support for Govt. Girls school, Mau Lokra.
  • Indian Red cross- TPI West conducted a Vaccination drive to community.
  • Carried out Painting & Civil work at Govt. School, Nemelicherry.
  • Constructed classroom for Poondi CSI Primary School.
  • Paid Rs. 10 Lakhs to the District Collector, Thiruvallur on 29th May 2021 as  Covid Fund.

Contributions to PM and CM’s Releif Funds for Covid-19 in 20-21

TII extends its support to the governments both at the State of Tamil Nadu and the Central Government in their fight to combat the deadly Corona Virus and also in their efforts to contain the outbreak by donating as under
  • Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund – Rs. 2 Crs.
  • Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES) – Rs. 1 Cr.
To enable the Government of Tamilnadu to effectively combat the 2nd wave of COVID-19 pandemic, Murugappa Group was one of the first few conglomerates that contributed to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund – Rs. 6 Crs. (TII’s contribution – Rs.1 Cr.)Our Chairman, Mr. Arun Murugappan alongwith Mr. Muthu Murugappan, Head Strategy, Nutraceuticals, EID, Parry are seen handing over the contribution to the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, Mr. M.K.Stalin.

Murugappa Quarantine Facility

  • With an intent to support Murugappa Group employees residing in and around Chennai a COVID quarantine facility was created at the Murugappa Polytechnic facility with the support of TPI and facilitated by IIIC.
  • The isolation facility provides adequate medical support during the recuperating period.
  • The facility has 66 beds and is scalable upto 120 beds.
